June 12, 2020 - I am really continuously impressed by these wines. Deep, dark, intense blackberry compote. This wine has a lot of spiciness up front, very good deep black fruit in the middle, spicy finish, stiff oak tannin. Quite a bit softer than I remember other bottles being, yet at the same time the stiff oak tannin are definitely here and definitely has a lot of growing to do. Even still, if you open one of these up now, you'll still be quite impressed. I think the best years of this wine are probably coming in 2024 or so, but there is nothing wrong with this young black-fruited wine at the moment.

February 24, 2020 - Rich and layered, drinkable now with steak with a decent decant, but tons of stuffing if you prefer Cabs with some age. Wish I had more.

August 29, 2019 - Day 1: decanted and consumed 1/2 bottle over two hours. Gorgeous nose of red fruit, potpourri, cassis, with a touch of black fruit. Moderate tannins, but then the spice came out with time and tannins integrated. Moderate complexity/finish. Flavors of Steadily improved with air. Lots of upside. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this 95+ in 10 years.

July 13, 2019 - I opened this up to compare against Mark’s ‘09 to see how they differed. While this was enjoyable to drink close to pop and pour, it really blossomed after about 4hrs of slow ox. Fruit got really soft and mellow with the tannins more integrated. Red and black fruit is the signature flavor profile of this wine (baked black cherry pie) along espresso, cherry pipe tobacco, and a Black Forest cake-like finish highlighting dark chocolate shavings. Still on an upward trajectory.

July 12, 2019 - Compared to the 2009, this is a more black cherry dominant wine and definitely seems to go to a more red profile. Full bodied black cherry and makes no apologies for what it is. In your face. The middle picks up a hint of chocolate-covered black cheeey. Finishes with a fair amount of tannin. Maybe a bit shut off but this wine is still quite elegant and would do well with a nice pork chop demi-glaze and herbed potatoes. The 09 gets a 94, and this one does too. I really good wine with excellent structure that likely will hold much beyond the 09 that it was consumed alongside.
