March 19, 2019 - Decanted and served. On the young and wound up side of things. Good fruit though and not sharp or aggressive, just not there yet and this easily needs another 5-10years to develop a complex side and get to its full stride. Shame to open it young. 90 for now but really no point to rate

March 28, 2018 - initially coravined a couple of months ago, then kept in fridge. Vibrant ruby color. Nose really opens up with time and warming, becomes explosively aromatic, black cherries with herbal spice, strong florals. Palate bright cherries, slight cinnamon spice, wonderful tea/earthy flavors, and great acidity and rounded tannins. Still a powerful beast but immensely complex and appreciable now. 95 pts

March 28, 2018 - At dinner. Brief note. Pours a day bright purplish red in the glass. Nose and palate are intensely aromatic showing black and red cherry, granitic blueberry, orange peel, rose hip, cranberry, kirsch, and hard minerals. Midpalate has a creamy texture like that of thick chocolate milk which is then cut with juicy and tart acidity to liven the palate back up. Finish is long but not yet complex as this has many years to go. Ripe yet in good balance and not over the top or manipulated whatsoever. Needs another 8-10 years to start opening up to its potential.

May 23, 2017 - Day 2 in Piedmont (Giacosa, Conterno, & Cavallotto) (Piedmont, Italy): You could sense the oak influence a bit on the nose here but it integrated nicely with cherry, strawberry, tar, and earth. The palate had a great core of red fruit - deep and concentrated. The tannins were there, but unlike a couple other of the young Giacosa's, the tannins were silky. Thought this showed really nicely and should develop really nicely.

March 25, 2017 - 2013 Bruno Giacosa Rabajà and Rocche (Home): Pop n pour about 2pm: Lovely perfume of smoky sweet red fruits and licorice. Hints of chocolaty spice. Silky on the palate with rich red fruit in the middle and rough tannins on the long cherry finish. Nice earthy red fruits. Amy sniffs both bottles and says the left one (Rabaja) is the girl and the right one (Rocche) is the boy.
Open 8 hours: Dark red fruits in the nose. Fuller, thicker, richer, with loads of tannin in the middle and finish. Long and delicious, but not much weight or power.
Open 28 hours: It has developed a rich vibrancy that I associate with young Giacosa. The tannins have softened and there is a long finish of sweet red fruit, licorice, and fruitcake. Pretty good for the first vintage from this parcel. 91-93 points
