December 27, 2014 - End of year sparkling wine tasting: Disgorged September 2000. Toast, butterscotch, herbal and mint with an oxidative edge to it. Fair bit of body and power, carries well enough. Drink now.

This is the second disgorging of this wine. After six years on lees it is really singing. No malo lactic was undergone and the wine has always been particularly intense and linear. It is the most inspiring of our sparkling releases for mine but can be challenging as the dosage was very low and the mineral factor very high. For lovers of dry, small grower Champagnes this wine makes a lot of sense. The nose has floral, nutty and creamy aromas and is developing some lovely aged, earthy complexity. The palate is very tight, driven and balanced with a delicious interplay between freshness, creamy texture and a powerful, driving finish. -

Medium to full yellow-green; notwithstanding that the base wines were held in oak for several years, and came from blocks yielding below two tonnes to the acre, the bouquet is rich and complex, but neither oaky nor aldehydic, while the palate is surprisingly elegant and fresh. The wine spent over three and a half years on lees, and the acidity at harvest must have been daunting. A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the 1993-1996 vintages.
