August 31, 2019 - I've had this wine 5-6 times over the last dozen years, never disappointed. I was half-expecting this latest bottle, purchased on auction, to show poorly due to the CT drinking window. Remarkably, this was still going strong & has legs to go another few years. Black fruits / wild berries, chocolate & cassis -- bordering on over ripe/sweet. But if you know this all going in: then it's why you're here to begin with, and is standard fare for most B&H!
March 3, 2019 - Decanted for one hour. Similar notes as previous tastings, but this wine still needs a 45-60 minute minimum decant. Deep intense black fruits in the nose and flavor.. Dried plums, black cherries, black raspberries, blackberries, currants, licorice, and some floral. Well balanced, full bodied, and a long finish. We enjoyed this, but it won't be for everyone.
January 26, 2018 - Don't know how to score this bottle. We gave this wine a 93 in 2017. This was so big on opening, it was difficult to drink. Though it did open up after 30-40 minutes, it was mainly dried plums, black cherries and leather in the nose, huge fruit in the flavor, but also a bit of alcohol in the finish. We're going to wait a year or more on our next and last bottle. It will need to be decanted at least 45 minutes, probably longer.
March 24, 2017 - Floral notes. black raspberries, blackberries, currants, chocolate. licorice, and minerals. Well balanced and a long finish. The Cab Franc and Merlot really come out.
April 10, 2015 - ridiculously rich
June 3, 2012 - All alcohol - not consistent with prior bottles. Last one anyway.
March 30, 2012 - A total fruit bomb - a little too ripe and sweet for me, but the rich fruit does somehow manage to mask the alcohol burn. My tastes have moved on - I'd have rated this a couple of points higher a few years back.
May 2, 2011 - Consistent with my last bottle a week ago
April 22, 2011 - Massive fruit concentration, silky - nice, even straight out of the bottle. No sign of heat.
September 10, 2009 - Still going strong. Vaguely medicinal nose with high tone red/black fruit. Full in the mouth. Another fruit bomb but without any clear varietal characteristic. With a little time and air showed a long smooth finish.
