August 2, 2020 - Allowed to breathe from the bottle for 1:45, not decanted, and followed from standard Cabernet stems.

Fragrant nose is meaty and heavy with leather; this screams Bordeaux, and the nose is not all shy about it.

Extraordinarily well balanced on the palate, particularly given its age. There’s a lot going on here with mature fruit, leather Coffee and caramel. When cool there’s a hint of pepper and spice, but this diminishes as it approaches room temp. I I The finish is sweet, yet there’s a dry component that allows this to really linger on the outer edges of the back-palate.

Now enjoying my final glass out of a sommelier stem and there’s a notable difference. The nose is more New World than Bordeaux; the wines approach has more tannin and strength, yet the finish is softer and a bit more brief.

My final bottle from this vintage, this was significantly better than last nights 2004 Montelena. This is really something special, and while it can last a few more years, I’m not sure that it will improve with age, at least for our palate. Bravo!

May 24, 2020 - 2 hour decant. A unique flavor profile that I am still having a hard time pinpointing. In addition to black fruits, there was a tangy wineberry element with dried and green herbs plus some sweet Oak. Very smooth. 30 second finish.

May 8, 2020 - Still going strong, beautiful fruit and some life left.

    Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of leather, Kirsch, potpourri, dark cocoa and plum. Flavors of cassis, plums, raspberries and black cherries. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannin, full bodied. Drink now with some air or continue to hold.

March 27, 2020 - A big whiff of oak and spice, on the palate it opens thick and a little latexy . As it’s cold, the fruit is a little linear with blueberries predominant.

    March 29

Still a full bodied wine with a longer finish. Some eucalyptus on the nose and a darker cherry across the tongue. Very nice! No need to hurry as these will last the decade.

(Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon) Slightly cloudy, nearly opaque red violet color; appealing, Bordeaux-like, maturing, tart currant, cedar nose; ripe red currant, cedar, plum palate; needs 2-plus years yet; medium-plus finish

(Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley) A stunningly beautiful, refined nose with blackberry, blueberry, earth, mineral, wood smoke, and light herbs. The taste is other worldly. Perfectly refined. Immaculated detailed and textured. Hangs on the palate for minutes. Quite simply the best wine I have tasted. 96% Cabernet; 3% Merlot; 1% Cab Franc. Champoux, Tapteil, and Klipsun vineyards. 14.4% alcohol. 3,400 cases produced. Sampled at 62 degrees.
