March 16, 2024 - 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Event (Minneapolis, MN): So I told everyone decant their wines prior and this guest did not. This wine was tight but able to revisit this wine 3 hours later and it was so much better. Tobacco, cherry, earth, leather and minerals. Medium plus finish. A solid effort for sure.
February 16, 2024 - Splash decanted and enjoyed on its own. Quite a fresh nose of cassis and blueberry, much the same in the mouth, with savoury notes of olives and herbs midpalate. Nice to see they have toned down the oak. I'd like to try this again in four or five years time before asserting that it's a great wine, but it's certainly a good example of Talbot. My only reserve for now would be the 13.5% - which tastes like more.
February 14, 2024 - Smooth, alcoholic, fruit forward but young.
November 18, 2023 - Nose: Cassis, wet cedar, some forest floor. Palate: Dark cherry, red currants, cedar spice; somewhat light-bodied mid-palate; black licorice, sinewy tannins that eventually spread evenly over the palate and leave a nice weight with plum and a touch of oak grain. On day two, everything just got better and more integrated with added complexity.
October 25, 2023 - Blueberry, with hints of leather, cigar box, and gravel; elegant and very long; a little flat but engaging and pleasing nevertheless
October 7, 2023 - Saturday night Laksa party at Wimborne. Drank in large Riedel stemless. Poured from bottle.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purple colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of graphite, blackcurrant, blackberries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of deep dark plums, blackcurrant, blackberries, dark earth, leather. Long finish.
Good quality. Reliable good feel. Quite approachable and classic, though can certainly age.
September 8, 2023 - Classic Bordeaux. 55 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 39 % Merlot, 6 % Petit Verdot. More elegant with soft tannins. Easy, drinking wine.
September 2, 2023 - Quite lovely on the nose and smooth on the pallet. Strong fruit with blackcurrant and blueberry.
April 16, 2023 - Liked at the WS Grand Tour. The only Bdx there. I always like this wine and a solid QPR, for what it is.
March 19, 2023 - Decanted, and consumed over the next 6 hours. Modest nose of red and black berries. Gradually opened up, with each glass displaying more than the previous one. Flavors of blackberry and plum. Smooth tannin, medium minus acidity. Medium length finish. As usual with Chateau Talbot, an elegant, restrained and balanced wine.
