November 10, 2023 - Still very big, did not have the opportunity to decant. We will next time

June 11, 2023 - Pop and pour, although I think an hour in the decanter would be beneficial. Nose is beautiful dark fruit and black cherry, but not really showing any tertiary notes as yet. Inky dark in the glass with no visible bricking or age in appearance. This is a go with a decant for me, or hold another few years. 93+

March 18, 2023 - Syrah balanced out the Cabernet with a big black fruit on sleek persistent backbone

January 29, 2023 - Earthy and green on the nose but displayed dark restrained fruit, tannic and a bit restrained. Ent well with steak

(Long Shadows Chester Kidder) Hello friends. One of the best parts of our burgeoning wine scene is getting to watch wineries find their place. In almost 15 years of business, Long Shadows has settled into its home as a premium standout amongst the ranks—a leader in the movement that is Washington wine. Hitting a decade and a half is no easy feat for any business, and what’s most impressive is that Long Shadows continues to be relevant. And not just relevant—highly desireable, sell-out before release, rippin’ through vintages relevant. Now, they’ve moved largely to a pre-sell model for the Seattle market. Today, we have access to one of the winery’s most treasured offerings, one that will likely be sold out before its official release date. That bottle will be the main thrust of this offer, with two bonus wines at the end.An ode to Allen Shoup’s grandfather, Charles Chester, and his grandmother, Maggie Kidder, this red blend is made by Long Shadows director of winemaking, Gilles Nicault. More than half of the grapes used here come from Red Mountain, with the rest a blend throughout Walla Walla and the Wahluke Slope (Weinbau Vineyard). It clocks in at 15.3% alcohol. International Wine Report (Owen Bargreen): “The 2014 'Chester Kidder' Red Wine is another compelling wine from Long Shadows. This wine is a fantastic blend of 66% Cabernet with the remainder Petit Verdot and Syrah and saw 30 months of French oak treatment (85% new) prior to bottling. This outstanding wine begins with bold aromas of dark fruits, red bell pepper, dill, sagebrush and milk chocolate. The mouthfeel, fruit weight and texture is gorgeous. Moderate tannins connect with milk chocolate, green bell pepper, black olive and black cherry compote flavors that sit over some light tannins. This is a layered, polished and downright voluptuous effort that will best enjoyed in the next decade. Best 2017-2030. 94pts”
