October 14, 2022 - Very classic. On the leaner side for spatlese. Still seems a touch young and shut, I wish I'd given this bottle another year or two. Quite enjoyable anyways.

July 6, 2022 - Pale yellow. Voluptuous pear fruit on the palate, off dry and medium bodied, vibrating with sparkling acids, very long soul satisfying finish. Pears and candied apples on the nose, kerosine, lily of the valley, ever changing mix of aromas. Did I mention the long finish? What a lovely wine, went well with cod in tomatillo jalapeno sauce.

February 23, 2021 - Richer nose than its Kabinett counterpart. A wave of struck match, honey, Cantaloupe melon, raw sugar, minerals, ripe peaches, red apples, and verging on the tropical at the tail end with bananas and passion fruit. In the mouth, the wine is round and has a great, juicy, core of fruit, but also structure, minerality, and acidity to keep it together. Already approachable thanks to the charming 2016 vintage, this can definitely benefit from further aging and gain more complexity, but it's hard to keep the hands off it now.

November 26, 2020 - Light yellow. Wow, a beacon of spiced yellow apple on the nose. Perfect light weight. Intense apple giving the impression of sweetness leading to papaya, good acidity, and a swirl of slate at the end. Wonderful early accessibility. Wow, Schaefer is such a beast; the wines are fantastic year in and year out, as is the case in this "lesser" vintage which sits between 2 more heralded years.

August 31, 2020 - Prior bottle was a bit over 10 months ago and nearly fully recaptured my impressions from my initial tasting back in August 2018. Apricot, peach, citrus and minerals on the very aromatic nose I recalled from my first bottle. Medium bodied with apple, peach and apricot upfront, then tropical through the middle (more intense peach along with pineapple, papaya and kiwi). Very good acidity on the backside along with tart citrus qualities. The acidity is more in balance with the fruit than my bottle from last year. This meant that the fruit felt more expressive, but at the same time had that zip of acidity contrast rather than a concealing acidity blanket. Again impressed by the density and concentration achieved in a 2016. This should continue to improve for a number of additional years.
