June 13, 2021 - NV, blended with multiple vintages, which is weird. Some VA on it which is weird too. Cherries, strawberries, some fresh herbs. Potpourri, dried rose petal, grandma's house. Pretty tannic, medium + acid.

April 29, 2021 - Barnyard, earthy, a bit like a cab franc. Not quite what I was expecting. Nothing wrong with it but not for me.

October 4, 2020 - This is drinking well right now. Good spice, cinnamon, tree bark, pepper, ripe red fruit. Still a solid tonic structure, but welcome to offset the ripe red fruit and cinnamon. Lamb. Beef. Charcuterie. Cheese. This can pair...

December 16, 2018 - Enjoyed this a lot. Really intense nose of smoky tar and dried cherries. Light body but intense flavors of fresh and dried dark fruits like plum and fig. Liked it better on the second day which makes me think it could still use some more time or a little decant.

May 17, 2017 - I bought this a few years ago. I remember opening one about a month after the purchase, and being disappointed. The wine was good, but tight and austere. So I left two in the bottom of my cellar for the past two years, and I opened one tonight. What a difference, it was great ! Maybe that wine had just gotten off the shipping container when I bought it ?

Anyway, it has all the characteristic Calabretta interpretation of the Nerello grapes on Etna, in a simpler wine. Delicious. Dark red fruits, raw meat, minerals, lovely residual sweetness, medium acid and medium tannins, very long. Calabretta delivers again !

The importer's website reports that it is a blend of the 2005, 2008 and 2009 vintages.

I am such an Etna lover that I may be hopelessly compromised - and I have come to realize that many of my friends, family and guests don't find anything special about the Etna reds - but I find it to be an excellent wine and a great QPR.
