August 24, 2019 - Keller Pettenthal Großes Gewächs - full vertical tasting (2009-2017) (@Private location): *** view note in context of full tasting ***
    Glass: Gabriel Standard
PnP, not decanted. Tasted blind. Very young. Nose with lots of vanilla, cherry, red fruit. On the palate very artificial, lots of raisins, quite hot. Mediocre bottle or simply too young? I don’t know. 90-91…

November 17, 2018 - So packed and so delicious. Remarkably approachable and pleasurable for a young Red Label. Young and primary, to be sure, but a no regrets pleasure that shows plenty of Nebbiolo character.

November 17, 2018 - Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume III (Chicago, IL): This wine really bothered me. It really had no business being this viscerally delicious. Really, it's a hedonistic wine in the right way. Confected and candied red fruit on the nose, with just a hint of floral perfume behind it, but that candied quality is fairly complex -- raspberries, strawberries, and all those things cooked down with a fair bit of sugar. The palate is sweet and juicy and just a joy to drink. However, I do worry whether this is of the same calibre as, say, that brilliant 1998 Santo Stefano we had at the table. This is clearly not cut from the same cloth, but for drinking now, it's almost a shame to age this!

May 10, 2018 - Bruno Giacosa Tasting (PWS): Ash and earth, herbal notes, cherry and tobacco elements on the nose - savoury, bright and pretty at the same time. Delicate and delightful on the palate, with acidity giving the wine verve and poise. Lighter style fruit is stretched out into a brilliant length finish. Really approachable, with the savoury elements giving it a dimension of interest early. An awesome showing tonight.
