March 17, 2024 - Great wine but fairly closed at this point. Quite big and rich, massive depth. Like dropping down a mine shaft. Mainly dark fruits, robust structure, tannins soo strong. Full bodied. Very long finish and complex. Beginning to drink but really needs another decade.
August 12, 2023 - Decant, waited 4h, with dear, and risotto and mushrooms.
Very long, fills your mouth in every corner. Stays for over 60 sec. Its another level. Not tastier but more deep.
July 13, 2023 - Impressive Red Label from the newer era. Drinking very well young with incredible purity, sweetness of fruit and concentration. Refined structure. Seemingly in an early peak zone already - which is likely a combo of vintage and the era at Giacosa.
July 7, 2023 - Beautifully sweet and well balanced. Very young and primary but still so good right now.
November 13, 2021 - Bartolo Mascarello e Bruno Giacosa (Restaurant du Théâtre, Monthey): Un très grand vin, puissant, équilibré, tannins puissants mais absolument nets, un tout beau potentiel, attendre
September 26, 2021 - 4 pairs of top notch wines; 9/26/2021-9/27/2021 (Tøyen, Oslo): Double decanted 2h+ before dinner.
Nose: Menthol, strawberry, tar, anise, so many floral notes, lovely freshness. Just an extraordinary nose..
Palate: Dry, firm, a lot of tannins, but they are fine/small. Stones of dark cherries.
This gained momentum over the course of dinner, growing on all fronts. I would not say this has entered its prime drinking window, if you have just one bottle, I would say hold for another decade.
Nose is at a 98, palate close to a 95 on this night.
Total: 96/97
September 19, 2021 - So young and big right now that it was difficult for me to assess.
September 17, 2021 - medium red color with pale rim, on the nose saddle leather, wild cherries and delicate textures of spice, on the palate a beautiful primary strawberry and cherry fruit, fine gravelly notes of spice, fine long savory finish with dried herbs, beautifully elegant and seamless, lighter than the powerhouses of old- but still with terrific finesse and underlying tension, over time the intensity of the herb and spice notes grew, this needs a good bit of time.
(****), 2031++
February 24, 2020 - Red wine not blue
Red and black currant on sour cherry base
Puts on weight with every hour after double decant
Tannins 2011like, melt into abundant acidity
Nose constant, (cassis/Linzer Torte)
Too young and I don't say that often
93-97?
I forgot : pmet 9/10
August 24, 2019 - Keller Pettenthal Großes Gewächs - full vertical tasting (2009-2017) (@Private location): *** view note in context of full tasting ***
Glass: Gabriel Standard
PnP, not decanted. Tasted blind. Very young. Nose with lots of vanilla, cherry, red fruit. On the palate very artificial, lots of raisins, quite hot. Mediocre bottle or simply too young? I don’t know. 90-91…
