September 28, 2021 - Clear, deep intensity, garnet colour.

Clean nose, medium+ intensity, primary aromas floral (blossom); and prominent red fruit (cherry, plum), also black fruit (cherry, plum); and cooked fruits (prune) some spice, dried herbs (lavender). Cedar and chocolate, charred wood. Tertiary sensations include leather, earth, vegetal. Fully developed.

Palate: Dry, with high acidity, soft medium tannins, high alcohol and full bodied. Intense medium+ flavours of lots of fruit, black berries, cherry notes, plum and developed fruit, prune and cooked cherry. Also some spiciness, pepper. Some cedar, wood impressions, cloves, leather, tobacco, and earth-like tertiary aromas. Long finish.

A well balanced mature wine which still has a lot of fruit sensations, with well identifiable characteristics, complexity and a long finish. Overall a very good wine, which is fully mature for drinking now, not for further ageing. Very enjoyable!

January 25, 2020 - 100% Sangiovese from Panzano, fermented in large oak vats. 3 weeks of maceration. Aged for 18 months in barriques. 14% alcohol.

Dense and concentrated fully opaque blackish-red color. Developed and quite tertiary nose with aromas of gamey meat, some soy sauce, a little bit of dried dour cherry, light woody notes of savory oak spice, a hint of smoke and a chocolatey touch of mocha. The wine is ripe, full-bodied and silky smooth on the palate with developed, sweet-toned flavors of dried sour cherries, chocolatey oak, some raisiny tones and dried dates, a little bit of plum compote, light woody notes of oak, a sweet hint of blackcurrant marmalade and a cool herbal touch of mint with some noticeable warmth from the high alcohol. The wine shows nice sense of structure with its moderately high acidity and somewhat grippy medium tannins. The finish is ripe, juicy and somewhat grippy with developed and slightly sweet-toned flavors of savory oak spice, some raisiny tones, a little bit of bouillon, light jammy dark berries, a hint of toasty mocha oak and a touch of sour cherry bitterness. The high alcohol lends some heat to the aftertaste.

A quite tasty but both rather modern and surprisingly evolved Super Tuscan that seems to be Super Tuscan only in name - this is more like a very modern Chianti Classico, since the wine is 100% Sangiovese sourced from within Chianti Classico zone. Of course I understand that a producer might want to label a wine made in this modern style as an IGT Toscana instead of Chianti Classico, if they prefer to keep their Chianti Classicos more "classic" in style. However, what I don't understand why this wine is so evolved and rather tertiary this young. I would've expected a serious 12-year old Sangiovese to be either still young or then slowly evolving into maturity - not into old age as this bottle. I wonder if this vintage is evolving fast, or if this was just a badly kept bottle?
