July 27, 2021 - Bought this for my brother in law. He described it as a "decent wine" and "it didn't have an oak finish". Just to put his comments in context you should know his daily drinker is Mondavi Woodbridge Cab. I like to think of Penfolds as the Mondavi of Australia.

December 29, 2020 - Drank it too early. Still rough, not sure how much fruit is hidden. Another 5 years?

January 25, 2020 - Deep ruby with medium intensity blueberry and black current aromas.
Dry with high acidity, medium tannin high alcohol and medium plus body.
The medium intensity palate mimics the nose with the addition of some chocolate secondaries and maybe just a bit of caramel emerging. This leads to a medium finish with the end result being a very good offering.

March 8, 2019 - Very dark purple. Nose of very dark fruits of blackberry, blackcurrant, earthier tones in coffee bean, eucalyptus, menthol and dark chocolate and cocoa, sometimes barnyard and a bit of funk. Palate is rich of stewed fruits, beef, Vegemite, liquorice, blackcurrant lolly and strong blue fruit tea. Medium long length with integrated tannins. This is an intense and rich wine, with notes in all directions from fruits to darkness to vegetal to meat. This could do with some cellaring for a few years and shows great QPR. Excellent if a little big, even at four years old!

This bottle came in a garish looking red plastic wrapper which had to be fully removed to open the wine and looked awful compared to the standard bottle and label. Not a great use of plastic, Penfolds.

January 8, 2019 - Day 1: These Penfolds wines lately have over delivered for the price. Not the fruit bombs one would expect. Blueberries, underbrush, tar and pepper. Very rustic wine and picks up some of the classic Eucalyptus on the finish but not over the top. Solid and drinking well on a pop and pour. 88 points
Day 2: Still some Eucalyptus present along with blackberries, blueberries, spice and crushed rock. Medium plus finish and concentrated wine. Solid as day 1 but a bit different. This is a crowd pleaser. 89 points
Day 3: Some sediment on the final glass. Really nice with blue fruits, spice, more mellow overall and balanced. This is a really good wine for the money. 89 points
