January 6, 2024 - Natural wine makes a narrow sweetspot.
Looks developed but tastes structured at first. At the nose barnyard, tart, but gives way to a good juice after a hour. VA dominant day two. Other bottles have shown better

January 2, 2024 - Feels like this wine has finally come around. Red fruit, and a hint of chocolate on the nose and good fruit/body on palate and good acidity on finish. No VA in this bottle and better integrated structure than bottles opened 2-3 yrs ago.

NOSE: ripe, dark purple berries, with a subtle savory aspect. too.

BODY: medium bodied; lots of fine particulate matter present; slightly hazy, violet-garnet color of great depth.

TASTE: oh, my ... this is excellent! Dark-fruited, but with excellent acidity (not shrill) providing ample lift; gentle Kalamata olive tone; very gentle tannins, with the alc. hidden (13% labeled); soooo damn good! slightly medicinal --- old-time raspberry/rose/elderflower hard candies that my grandmother always used to have in her candy bowl; not oaky; not funky; lots of meaty/olive character. Little touch of mousy character emerged approx. 3.5 hrs after opening, but not enough to really ruin the experience; that said, perhaps best to skip the decanting next time.

    50, 5, 12, 17, 8 = 92

March 12, 2022 - A fascinating, though certainly unexpected Vieille Serine Domaine de Pergaud from Eric Texier. Given the vintage reputation one might expect a bruiser, a brawler, a blunderbuss pointed menacingly at the face—all structure and sublimated charm. But where are the brutal tannins? The stewed fruits? The heat? If you are expecting that brawn and burliness, best to look elsewhere. That said, the 2015 tickles the palate with ripples of wild berry fruit, aromas of crushed violets and pastilles, with fine-grained (and lurking) tannins, and just a whisper of black pepper and game. And while decidedly mid-weight, this dances about the ring more like a bantam weight: finesse married with sneaky power—punching above its weight indeed. And lest one think it’s insubstantial or lacking gravitas, there’s startling persistence and detail belied by its relative generosity. I suspect there’s a more “serious” wine that will emerge from within, but in the meantime, this was delicious with braised duck legs in red wine with mushrooms, though fresher and less structured than expected. But as they say, it’s always the quiet ones.
