Community Tasting Notes 8

March 9, 2019 - Elegant bouquet of earthy mushroom, old leather, graphite, sea breathe and some dried floral note. The palate is very much the same as the nose. Balanced and elegant with just some tannins in the mid-palate. Structure is still tight. The earthy and mineral notes follow through to a smooth and soft finish. Drink up now.

March 10, 2014 - Had this bottle yesterday at a friend's birthday who is the owner of the Wine Watch. My low rating is due to the age, but the wine held up somewhat. Cork came apart in 2 pieces but the wine wasn't comprimised. It needed an hour for the wine to open and remove the acidity and then ir was approachable. The fruit was gone and there was some mild acidity on the palate that was devoid of tannins as well. There was some earthiness and a hint of fruit. It went better with food than just sipping alone. This wine has gone past its prime, and for one of the best vintages of the 70's, we were still impressed with it.

March 3, 2013 - I do not know how this bottle was stored as I bought as part of a lot. The cork was fully saturated and the wine had gained some brown coloration. Still we could enjoy the juice with austere tannins but still some freshness.

January 9, 2010 - Top shoulder. Saturated corck came out in two pieces. Dark with some browning. Fresh and appealing nose. Quite long, but thinning a little towards the end. Tannic (of course given the vintage), but not unpleasant. It still has some fruit. Kept well in the glass, but did begin to fade after 3 hours. A positive surprise.

February 21, 2009 - Good fill level - into neck and cork soaked but came out in one piece. Medium garnet, wide mahogany rim. Slightly bitter, old fashioned but not unpleasant nose - with iron, some cassis and farmyard notes. However lacks intensity and structure on the palate, with no grip or life to speak of and a weak, dilute short finish. Drinkable, but that's about it.
