February 11, 2021 - On the nose: blackberries , plums, hints of boysenberries and chocolate and smoke. Lush and delightful.
On the palate the same, Medium to full bodied , smooth and silky, It is great with spaghetti snd marinara.
    2-14-21:
The last 3 days, breathing in the bottle with a cork lightly inserted, has only resulted in enhancing all of the wonderful qualities of this wine ; the nose, the palate , and it was great with herbed ricotta snd marinara over rigatoni, with garlic Dutch crunch bread.

June 26, 2020 - First bottle. Opened for one and a half hours.....no decant. That seemed fine. I echo some other reviewers that say this wine is fruit forward and a little one-dimensional. However, it was still very enjoyable. Side comment......I expect Pomerols to be a little less complex than is the case with other Bordeaux regions. Also, I believe this is the first time I have ever tasted any vintage of this Chateau. So, I took the time to look it up in a wine book I have. One of the comments is one part of their strategy is to pick their grapes as late as they possibly can, which, of course, yields very ripe grapes.....which, in turn, is going to produce fruit forward wine.

June 3, 2020 - I can pretty much just cut/paste my tasting note on the 2015 with this 2016. So, I did.... :)

“...Plum, red and black cherry, and subtle earthy spice. Pleasant and medium-bodied on delivery; an agreeable demeanor overall that offers up its flavors in a somewhat simple but affable execution. Mid-palate is solid but not incredibly deep. It’s in no way too thin or lithe, but there’s not a ton of intensity or drive currently. A slow burn kind of persinality. Finishes “fine” and a little flat.

Careful here when pairing with more powerful fare. The flavor expansion gets lost with heavier or even slightly spicy dishes. Give this Rouget time to gain some depth and complexity. It’s a very nice wine now but it’s not a stage-stealer by any means in its primary condition right now. A wine that will be better off down the road when it is able to develop secondary and tertiary components. I liked it. I didn’t love it. In the friend zone right now. Hold until 2023+. 91-92+? points....” (re: 2015).

The 2016 perhaps has a little more oomph, freshness, and body to it. Like the 2015, I’ll hold the 2016 for a few years. 93+ points for the 2016.

April 15, 2020 - Velvet fruit bomb. Balanced.

January 28, 2020 - A fruit bomb! Closer to a new world wine than a Pomerol, but still very pleasant to drink. Obviously, the wine is not super complex right now and is mostly delivering primary and secondary aromas. Tannins are present but of high quality. Balance is ok but not perfect; you can feel some heat on the mid-palate and on the finish. Overall a very good wine lacking typicity at this point. Revisit in 7-9 years.
