September 27, 2023 - First of two single bottles. Ripe and round and - for a Madiran/100% Tannat - relatively fruity. Perfect with lamb. PQR fine (10€/bottle) in 2020-09.

December 2, 2020 - Half Bottle: A typically chiselled floral and medium bodied freshly fruited a bit serious black, blue and red fruits Madiran with medium length and nice unobtrusive tannin. 14%. Lay down 3-5 years. Needs 3hrs+ aeration. Good QPR at under 10 Euros.

March 16, 2020 - Vincrush was 100% correct on this one. Not what I would expect from a Madiran, other than the very significant tannins even after a 5 hour decant. I’ll hold my remaining bottles until I run out of space, but I have no illusions that this will turn into a compelling wine.

February 1, 2020 - The Laplace family has made wines in Madiran since 1927. The wine is cold macerated for 3-5 days in wooden vessels, followed by a long maceration of 30 days w. remontage. Finally 15 months on barrique and 20 months in bottles. Impermeable dark red or purple. Not very expressive, but opens. Dry, full-bodied w. med+ acid and aggressive tannins and high alc. Dense structure and quite rustic although elegant w. a velvet finish. Still too young.

    Keep.

My notes: Black berries and spices, rose petals, liquorice.

January 5, 2020 - This took a few hours to open up. Dark purple fruits, some earth, tar, graphite. A bit of spice and purple florals. Palate is young with dark fruits, florals, earth. It's sour with good acid and fine tannins. A little heat but it burned off. The end and finish show nice perfume with the dark fruits and dark florals. Quite nice and good QPR. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 4.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15.5/20.
