January 22, 2021 - Aged leather red, mature fruit nose, softened since last tasted, stewed fruit may or may not cover for the oak. Has the mid palate depth to please admirers of overripe wine. To my taste, not not Pomerolish, not Bordeauxish not aging well.

October 25, 2020 - 0.375 L bottle late Oct 2020: deep purple red color; not decanted by the host (which was a mistake); the first two glasses showed a very restrained nose; mellow and lactic on the palate accompanied by weak dark berry notes; finally, after about one hour with the third glass, the wine opened up and presented a still slightly restrained bouquet of cherries, cassis and plum mixed with herbal fragrances; on the palate the mellowness was balanced by a prounouced acidity and distinct tannins could be perceived in the cheeks. 88-89+?/100

This half bottle La Pointe 2016 was clearly in infant stage. I would wait at least another 3-5 years before opening another bottle or if you cannot resist decant for >2 hours.

September 19, 2020 - A whiff of serious fruit. First taste is oak and menthol. Fruit is deep but hindered by tannins. I was not expecting this given the professional reviews - not at all drinkable in September 2020. Aeration does nothing due to the oak. Tannins may round in time however the oak?

April 10, 2020 - La Pointe's 2016 is an opaque ruby blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc. Packed with black cherries, dark plums, lavender, tobacco and savory herbs, it is a medium-bodied red with fresh acidity, seamless alcohol (14%), well-proportioned oak and plentiful silky-textured tannins. Nicely dense on the mid-palate and concluding with a lengthy, mineral-driven finish, this is a delicious Pomerol that should reach its twentieth birthday with grace. If you can resist, give it a couple of more years in the cellar before imbibing. Drink 2022-2036.
