April 30, 2020 - April Blind Tasting with Master of Wine Lindsay Pomeroy; 4/8/2020-4/30/2020 (Temecula, CA): Tasted double blind with MW Lindsay Pomeroy. Incorrectly identified as a Torrontes, Salta.

Deep lemon color; Pronounced aromatics of roses, perfume, potpourri, grapey, honeysuckle, ripe apricot and nectarines, soapy, and a sulfuric chemical that smells like "perm". Full-bodied, medium-to-low acid, high alcohol; richly textured, oily palate of ripe melon, fresh flowers, salty and lingering, spicy finish. Good to Very Good quality. Not a grape I enjoy that much.

Gewurztraminer was my runner up choice. Didn't get the lychee but should have paid more attention to the oily textured, full body palate than the flavors.

Markers for Gewurztraminer - Floral, perfume, ripe stone fruit, lychee, grapey, full body, lower acidity, high alcohol, oily texture.
Markers for Alto Adige - Stainless steel, balance of aromatic complexity and structure, white spice, fresh flowers

November 19, 2019 - WSET Level 3; 11/3/2019-2/3/2020 (San Diego, CA): Second time having this wine. Served double blind. Correctly identified.

Medium lemon-green; Med+ intensity, youthful aromas of stone fruit (peach, apricot), tropical fruit (lychee, pineapple), citrus fruit (lemon, lemon zest), floral (chamomile, blossoms, soapy) and minerals (flint, crushed stones). Dry, Med- acid, high alcohol, med+ intensity, med+ finish, full body. Pungent spice (white pepper, ginger, bitter green almond), stone fruit dominant (peach, apricot) with citrus (lemon) and distinct tropical tones (lychee, pineapple), floral (honeysuckle, blossoms, soap) and minerals (stones, salt). Good. Drink now, not suitable for aging.

September 17, 2019 - WSET Level 2; 8/20/2019-10/15/2019 (Leoness Cellars, Temecula, CA): Burnt rubber and potpourri in the nose, along with honey, nuts and perfume. Full body, low acid, lychee fruit with a dry finish of almonds, dried apricots, spice and wood. Wish it had more acid.
