January 7, 2019 - Fresh and young bottle. Brooding soil and tar notes balanced by pure dark red fruit. Perfect bottle

February 1, 2018 - Nose was in line, if somewhat subdued. Palate reasonable but not what this wine should be. Brownish tint to the backpalate likely reflecting a storage issue.

January 20, 2017 - 99W/91R. Single blind with 91 Drouhin Musigny. Muddy look, sediments. Relatively dark red fruit with medicinal, stewed fruit notes across palate. More savage, strong backbone.

July 31, 2016 - Tasted blind, this wine had a deep red center with light red/slightly orange rims. The medium intensity nose showed black cherries, blackberries, orange peel, brown spices, and some soil.

In the mouth, this wine was all about ripe fruit. It was big and bold in its ripeness. Despite this, it did not come off as heavy or ponderous. It had nice rounded tannins, light acidity, and very good length. It had nice integration and a fine-grained texture.

Overall, I thought this wine still seemed a bit young and showing some "baby fat". My guess is that it might improve a point or so over the next 5-10 years.

June 13, 2016 - From magnum, which seems to be particularly important with this wine. This is showing power with grace, confidence and quiet authority. Lovely firm fruit and density. Not particularly long on the finish however. Tannins are ripe and clean.

March 3, 2016 - Simple but smooth nose with primary fruit and a little spice. Somewhat jammy palate with distinct cherry notes. Low to moderate acid but enough fruit that this will perform for some time yet

March 3, 2016 - Zachys La Paulee "Warm-up" Dinner (Boulevard - San Francisco CA): Small glass, brief note. Still nicely fresh fruit with some game notes. Everything nicely balanced, very good textures, very persistent. Lots of pleasure tonight.
