March 30, 2014 - Friend opened this after a 2009 Niellon Chassagne Montrachet 1er Clos St Jean seemed to start off wrong.
Great deep yellow coloring. Not much of a nose.
Woody quality and really broad middle on the palate that sometimes came off kind of flat
Really opened up after an hour or so with more fruit coming up
First time I've had a PF this old

September 5, 2013 - Nice and ready to drink. Lots of minerals on the nose and palate. Hint of lemon. Puts many Premier Cru white burgs to shame.

    October 7, 2012 - Light lemon-gold, clear and bright.
Lemon and honey on the nose, with a little butter revealed on swirling.
Oatmeal, honey and lemon and grapefruit on the palate, with acidity refreshing without dominating. Initially somewhat four-square, but opens out nicely onto a complex yet elegant finish once it's warmed up a fraction and its here the wine comes into it's own.
There is a little hint of oxidation , but at this stage not distracting. Probably safest to drink over the next 2 years, but that would depend on your palate preferences, as that complexity may also build further.

Footnote: we bought this bottle at the winery, after a discussion with Philip Tuinder about the 2003 vintage. He felt they made a good wine in 2003 despite the vintage conditions, so I decided to take him up on the challenge and get a bottle. On the strength of this bottle I'd agree with him.
