Community Tasting Notes 6

November 26, 2020 - In what is now its old age, this bottle rewarded us with a graceful rendition of Pinot - the fruit muted, the tannins fully resolved, the scent oh-so delicate, and for taste, I can only describe it as smooth rather than any flavor being particularly assertive. The bottle was in great shape, doubtless because it has been in proper storage since purchase at release. Time to drink up any bottles remaining in the cellar.

    Rated +1 on a scale of -1 to +3.

April 23, 2017 - Still retaining youthful notes and color, this 15 year old bottle is an exemplary California Pinot Noir vinified in a true Burgundian style - the restrained hand of Bill Cadman allowed the fruit and terroir to express itself. Tart red fruits still predominate, with subtle savory notes harmonizing. Based on this tasting, I will set aside my one remaining bottle for at least another 5 years, and look forward to that day!

    Rated 2 on a scale of -1 to 3.

October 16, 2010 - I found this bottle in a well-kept, temperature-controlled wine cabinet of a friend. I thought, "Eight years old ... should be at its peak, perhaps even declining." Boy, was I surprised! Great color, amazingly complex in the nose — cinnamon, chocolate, mushrooms. Having tasted many Tulocay Pinots before I realized this was so typical of Bill Cadman's winemaking style: Take what the vineyard gives, ferment in small lots, age in seasoned barrels ... just like in Burgundy. I have tasted well-cellared Tulocay Pinots at 15 years of age and found them splendid. There is no reason to doubt that, if well stored, this Pinot will reach that pinnacle easily.

May 10, 2007 - Silky smooth with lots of red fruit tones, but a hint of earth. Great wine.
