January 18, 2024 - 1997 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Retrospective (Omaha, NE): Something wasn't right with this bottle. It seemed cooked...lifeless.
January 1, 2024 - Was good with prime rib and paired great with cranberry sauce. Definitely needed food to kick it up, won’t last much longer
December 31, 2023 - New Years Eve (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Sadly, this was heat damaged and pruned.
December 31, 2023 - 2023 New Years Eve Celebration! (Kevin's House): Heat damaged, I suspect.
December 30, 2023 - Nose of black cherry, black berry, allspice and dry earth, on the palate, medium/big body, very tasty, mouth filling fruit, showing its age, smooth, mellow, medium/long finish.
December 27, 2023 - EXCEPTIONAL! And seriously MUCH better after a few days in the fridge (almost a week). Significant sediment with a dry cork so needs filtering. But this aged NAPA CAB continues to deliver well beyond expectations. All the classic notes of Cabernet Sauvignon.
August 6, 2023 - Cork, perfect. Cherry, blackberries, and vanilla on the nose (the tiniest barnyard). At first fruit, still alive and a bit muted, then a refreshing wash of tart acid (feels like cherry pie), combines to fruit aromas circling the ceiling in my mouth, and acid on the tongue, at the bottom of the mouth below the tongue is a mild grip of friendly tannins. It’s a harmonious and chill but fun and vibrant structure. It’s prime juice, with edges of tertiary but feels like mostly well buttressed primary flavor wine. Perhaps needs more time for the tertiary to further emerge but it’s a damn fine wine right now. sad it’s my only bottle, will look out for more.
June 26, 2023 - Still going but drink up. Got that dusty cherry thing going on. Lovely old Napa Cab.
June 16, 2023 - Great nose; deep and dense perfectly ripe (in a Napa kinda way) mixed wild berry with plenty of clean earth adding gravitas; so smooth. Some bottle variation for me, and this was the best bottle to date.
April 23, 2023 - Precious! Tons of sediment with a long decant finally revealed a beautiful bounty of florals. Absolutely luscious deep garnet. Quite a gem.
