May 9, 2021 - Served at my parents. Dark ruby fruit - currants, blackberry, and dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate with a nice purity but a lighter profile than expected in light of the vintage and price point - medium body. Nice vibrant/rich flavors of dark berries, baking spices, chocolate/cocoa, and a mineral/graphite component. However, I thought the finish was somewhat lacking - a little short/not much depth. Decanted for one hour and drank over a couple more. Not much improvement with time but appears to be at a decent drinking point. In my opinion, a little better than the 92+ rating from WA at this stage. 100% cab.
December 30, 2020 - Exceptional wine from Spring Mountain that is both muscular and elegant. Prominent oak and chocolate flavors. While the oak is there, it does not overwhelm the fruit. Bright raspberries, strawberries, cherries remind you this is a mountain bottling. Will be better with a few years for oak to integrate.
May 6, 2020 - The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. The body is medium/full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.
April 9, 2020 - I've had this wine before but my wife and I paired it with a nice filet and the flavor is big and wonderful. Big, bold with a long finish and a beautiful color in the glass. I will definitely order more!
November 15, 2019 - Dark chocolate covered blackberries, licorice, vanilla and herbs hit you in the nose and on the full-bodied palate. The wine is tannic, fresh and fruit-filled, but it's going to need at least 5 years to show its best.
October 18, 2019 - Medium nose shows fairly typical profile. Palate more expressive, blackberry compote, graphite, mineral tone is nice, black plum, cassis, more layers in the finish and with food that are very nice. Smooth structure for 2016 mountain style, well done.
May 7, 2019 - Wine Warehouse Spring Tasting, my wine of the tasting, nose of cranberry, red cherry, black cherry, and plum, same on the palate, big body, rich fruit, intense fruit, mouth filling fruit, needs 5 years to peak, soft tannins present, and a long, flavorful finish.
April 9, 2019 - Constricted and wrapped around the axle, this hyper-young wine is still in the embryonic state. Notes of crunchy cranberry, pomegranate, red cherry, red currant, cedar, green peppercorn, and some vanilla. Extremely linear and one of the most higher register Cabernets I’ve had from this vintage. This needs to be forgotten about for a decade or more. The mid-palate is flavor-numbing and piercingly acidic, with a nettle-chomping finish. I’m making the assumption that there is potential here, but quite frankly it’s hard to tell at this stage. Revisit after 2030+.
December 23, 2018 - 93-95 pts for what it will be in 5-7 years. Currently, this is just a big, young wine that has all the stuffing to become something great. However, for my palate, I wouldn’t drink it for 8-10 more years. Patience will be rewarded.
