August 27, 2019 - Rather pale for Pinot, relatively dark for rose. Red more than purple. Earthy cherry nose. Starts simpler and cherrier when cool and grows more complex and evocative as it warms. A most unusual rose. Grows rounder and fuller as it warms. Ci namon and baking spices emerge. Pricey but spectacular.
June 9, 2019 - 11 parcels with 3-9 days on skins make this darker than Beaujolais Nouveau but lighter than (most) Pinot. Started off cold and drank as it sat out and warmed up - palate more or less stayed the same but the nose went from cool/ripe fruit to a bit more open and floral. Watermelon, apricot, red berries and a slight charred rock. I would have liked a touch more acidity to pack an initial punch. It takes a minute for the acidity to build but I feel it hinders some of the palate. There’s Rainer cherry, pomegranate, unripe strawberry and oyster shell. All fantastic but for the price/rarity I feel it misses that small “wow” to make it a 95.
April 6, 2019 - The thing I usually think when I think rose: astringency. After coming out of winter into spring, when you're overloaded with heavy foods and heavy wine, that crisp, bracing, tangy note can be really appealing. But at the same time, most rose is one-dimensional, and only offers that one note.
Not this one. In the glass, clear medium-dark ruby red - a bit too light to pass for pinot, but not far off. On the nose, high toned citrus and berries, hinting at the astringency to come. On the palate, yes, it's rose, but a lot more depth here; nutmeg, pine, cherry, a touch of oak, and a saline note, on a moderately long finish. Lots of character here.
March 27, 2019 - A nice representation of a Pinot Rose'.
Some folks may be surprised by its dark color but no worries, its a rose'. This had a longer maceration period so the color is darker but the gentle flavors of light cherry, watermelon and some hints of white fruits round this out nicely.
Balanced and goes very well with light snacks or a grilled salmon dinner.
January 27, 2019 - Beautiful, seamless wine. Labeled rosé of Pinot Noir but if you’re unfamiliar with this wine, do not be surprised by its dark ruby color. Darker than some Pinots I’ve had actually. According to the website, rather than being pressed directly or siphoned from a fermented, this wine is macerated on the skins for about a week before being siphoned off into barrel for a year. The result is a deeply complex “rosé”, one that I recommend to all my non-rosé drinkers out there. I also think trying something this unique opens your eyes to different winemaking processes so you get more than just enjoyment out of it, you get education, which makes the experience that much better. Spells of raspberry and matchstick and/or gunpowder. Medium weight, tingles on the tongue. All the complexity of a red, but the brightness and lightness of a rosé. Such a beautiful finish. Everyone should give this style rosé a shot at least once.
