March 20, 2019 - Beautiful, rich, spicy and young (I knew this). Dramatic expression of a grenache- dominant GSM. Garnet and rich in color and texture. Dramatic nose of blackberry, herbs, peppery spice, carmelized bacon. Beautiful texture, mouth feel and finish. Compelling. I wrote this review without looking at prior notes. I debated 97.

February 9, 2019 - Very smooth blend with sweet Mourvèdre. The wine took on character in the glass in the second hour. No hard edges. Mostly blue fruit with a hint of spice and open for business. This was a pnp tonight tasted with a 2012 Quintessa. The Quintessa was initially bigger which is expected for a cab versus a blend. The Saxum was terrific with the duck while the Quintessa was great with short ribs and filet. Overall, I slightly preferred the Saxum for its extra subtle layers of character, but would give both wines a 94 and both were terrific.

January 30, 2019 - Unusual to have a Saxum mid week! In the middle of the biggest snow storm in weeks. Great body and fruit -- definitely a more refined style than in earlier years.

January 29, 2019 - Essentially perfect! Features a nose of such penetration, beauty, and grace. Pure, beautiful, and complex flavors of red fruits and dark fruits with sweet Grenache notes. Tasted along side several great CdPs and this held its own.
