Community Tasting Notes 72

July 17, 2020 - Minty, loamy, red fruit. Long finish. This tasting sample was a little more developed than the bottle I drank last year and shows a bit better.

    January 25, 2020 - nose - plum and olive
mouth - sexy bold fruit, very round and long at this stage more powerful than complex, but i see it slowly budging from its impenetrable former self. Great structure. Youthful at nearly 20. A wine for the ages.

January 19, 2020 - Pop n pour through vinturi into our glasses. Northern Rhone nose of roasted meat, coffee, plum, earth. First 30 minutes closed then opened to syrupy yet not heavy concentrated red and black fruit and spice with a 30-40 second finish of fruit. Very primary but balanced. After drinking a few Harlan and Maiden vintages I am liking the style but finding it a little overpowering and dare I say overpriced. Great wine though. 95-96 drink now with a decant or hold.

December 29, 2019 - Cloves, nutmeg, lavender and mint nose. Red and blue fruit palate. First glass was the most expressive then closed a little. Very hedonistic but not out of balance. Medium to long finish with a touch of heat. Seemed a more muted version of the 2004 (see my other note) but a pleasure to drink.

December 17, 2019 - It did not stand out in a tasting of California Cults at Steak 954. Naturally, it’s intense and concentrated, with a bit less of the candied cherry flavor than some of the other wines. But it’s still dangerously close to cough syrup, high in alcohol and tiring. Age seems to mellow Harlan a bit but not enough.
