February 8, 2019 - Similar to last bottle..
January 27, 2019 - Surprisingly youthful for a 20 year old. Color is deep garnet, only slight bricking. Tannins still dominant, began to soften after two hour decant. Does not give up much on the nose, on the palate restrained fruit and a distinct bell pepper note that fades after time in decanter. Earthy. Medium body.
January 19, 2019 - Strong showing from this wine. Very much alive and thriving at 20years of age. Definitely not what you would call a modern Cali cab, this is made in a very restrained and elegant fashion. Very good. No rush on this.
December 22, 2018 - Had this wine 8 years ago and it hasn't aged much, if at all. Very dark, no bricking in sight. Modern style but not over blown. Fruit is classic cassis and there's a huge base of chalky minerals. Had the final glass 3 nights later and it was still delicious. No rush to open.
December 19, 2018 - 1999s poured blind, with a few unplanned extras (The Winery Restaurant in Newport Beach, CA (The OC)): This showed an alcohol forward aromatic, and what I sometimes refer to as 'soapy' when a wine throws off that kind of volatile alcohol aroma. Big ripe fruit, dark and even brambly, with a Chambord liqueur quality. This is not fading at 20 years but it's not showing the Cab qualities that I gravitate to in Cab.
March 22, 2018 - Still lots of power. Needs an hour or 2 to open up. Very nice. I love 1999's from california.
March 3, 2018 - Tasted along with a 1997 Firestone Reserve Cab. Decanted for 15minutes. Color was vibrant with just a hint of bricking on the edge. Nose was fresh, plum, strawberry and herbs. Opened up in the glass, tannins fully integrated. Very nice Cabernet, flavors of blueberry, dark cherry, lead pencil and a light note of wood. Well made, drink over the next couple of years.
October 31, 2017 - Nice and balanced. Great age to drink this.
July 17, 2017 - surprisingly alive and vibrant. drink up if you have it!!!
November 18, 2016 - This puppy has seen better days. Very brick in color. Muted, somewhat dusty on the palate. I just don't think it has any stuffing any more.
