October 14, 2019 - 2016 Yangarra Estate Shiraz was lively, floral and layered. The McLaren Vale Shiraz was clear and deep purple in colour, with traces of fine sediments at the bottom of the bottle. The aromas were intensely floral with violets and daffodils, followed by blueberries, game and a touch of macadamia nuts. On the palate, it was medium-bodied, high in acidity and medium-high in rounded tannin. The aromas and the acidity were lifted, thanks to the 50% whole berry fermentation. Flavours of blackberries and spices led to a stylish long finish.
It would be interesting to re-visit this wine in three years, as the high acidity and the rounded tannin indicated age-worthiness. It was hoped that time could tame down the floral blossom and bring in savoury tertiary characteristics.

June 9, 2019 - Raspberry compote, plum, dark Milka chocolate (yes I know there’s no such thing), Akta Vite, bitumen minerality. polished wood. Grainy yet pillowy tannin. Balance and length excellent. So good now, 3 hours open, and improving with air. So seductive, I was 92 on this most of the evening but tempted to go higher.

May 27, 2019 - Deep, dark nose, plenty of dark fruits, spice and earth. Palate is similar, dark plums and assorted dark forest berries, well balanced. Good complexity too.
