April 11, 2024 - Interesting now. At nearly nine years, not what I was expecting on PnP and I wouldn't have called in Tablas or guessed Mourvedre blind. Bright and mid-weight, cherry, some red fruits. I decided to decant and vigorously aerate in the decanter a couple of times. The half hour+ helped reveal touches of depth and with our meal and over a couple hours it reached towards a more typical profile. Only now have I glanced at the most recent Tablas Creek vintage chart that recommends decanting! Still, even a couple hours in we'd get visits from vanilla and sweet tones. Some earth and soil came in towards the end.

This is my first of two and my intent is to lay the other one down another 4-5 years. Even though it's not particularly tannic nor especially deep, Tablas wines even when mid-weight often age really well.

Right now this is a good wine - and it was a really nice choice with a small dinner of lightly seasoned baby back ribs with white beans. Very good, really, but not particularly noteworthy.

December 14, 2021 - Popped and poured. Not what I expected, but I like it. Medium ruby color, with ripe cherries in the nose and mouth. Surprisingly light on its feet, but still with enough oomph to make a good impression. I thought this would drink similar to a Bandol, but that is not the case at all. Definitely made in a style allowing an early drinking window, this already seems quite mature, with little tannin or acidity. Rather yummy and candy-like. 4-12-16-8: 90/100.

January 6, 2018 - Very interesting wine as this was a new primary grape to us(this was the first time I have had a 100%mourvedre wine), my wife initially said it tasted cherrylike and smelled like cough syrup, wine is very well made, very balanced, medium bodied, smooth tannins, some acid but the wine never clicked and did not finish the bottle, I can appreciate the winemaking but not a wine I would drink again although maybe having 1 glass would be fine, drank with roasted pork chops.

December 30, 2017 - Aroma: smoky, toasty, barnyard notes over blackberry fruit.
Palate: surprisingly light-bodied with smoky, animale black berry fruit. Moderate acidity, nicely balanced tannin and good structure. Very good.
