December 2, 2023 - I agree completely with the reviewer who compared this to cool-vintage cru Beaujolais. Definitely a style that has a lot of potential in the Sierra Foothills. I wish producers there (or, in this case, whoever gets the fruit) made more wine like this.

Stewed black cherries, stewed raspberries, maple sap, dried herbs, cotton candy, dirt/earth on the nose. Intensity of aromas is medium +. The palate shows a fresher side of the fruit - call them ripe instead of stewed. It also adds some autolytic yeast and barnyard flavors as well as limestone. Just enough funk to make it interesting - not nearly enough to be a problem. Blinded, I would swear this was from Europe.

Medium body with medium + acid and medium tannins. In a nice place right now; but I don't think it's going to get any better. Drink now.

August 22, 2023 - Classic D&R. As I drink down my stock of these wines I can’t help but appreciate the distinctive approach to an under appreciated varietal. This is like the Mourvèdre version of cool year cru Beaujolais. Crunchy, bright red fruit, great acid…. There’s something interestingly herbal tea-like as well.
    Still very vibrant!

May 12, 2022 - I wrote a note about this wine the last time I had it nearly three years ago. I could write the same note tonight. The wine is all about texture. It’s certainly evolved since 2019, and the fruit has taken on an earthy edge. Yet it’s still about the brightness, the freshness of the acidity, and the sunshine it conveys from the glass. I have one more bottle, and I am really not sure if it’s a drink soon, or drink a little later proposition. So I will just take it as it comes, and see what’s in the bottle without having some plan. The wine doesn’t care what my plans are anyway.

February 13, 2021 - PnP, followed over about 3 hours. Nose of strawberry, rhubarb, lilac, iced tea, flint and licorice with hints of match stick and summer herbs. In the mouth tart apple skin, cranberry and strawberry with fresh basil and other green herbs, baby aspirin finishing with dry leaves and a very pleasant bitter cherry. Crunchy, lighter side of medium body, bright acid and very subtle but present tannin.

Very nice and enjoyable, if not terribly complex wine, that is ready now, but at well over $40 it is hard to see much in the way of value here.

December 8, 2020 - This bottle was DOA. Brown color. No funk, no flower petals, no fruit. Just hints of what could have been. Very strange. Not cooked or raisiny, just stripped clean.
