March 24, 2021 - This continues as a superior wine, but drink it soon.

Dark berries and notes. But is fading.

    Drink in one sitting.

March 18, 2016 - Blind home wine tasting with MOT Scoring sheet: Dark ruby red and fruitier than all the others tonight.

Full bodied with some dark chocolate in the finish.

May 24, 2012 - 2004 Bennett Lane Maximus: This bottle has more zip than the previous I've opened but still curious in it's lifecycle and just a touch unbalanced. I didn't decant this one like the last and it's drinking much better and I think a slow introduction to 02 better than rapid oxidation. I let it sit in the bottle for about an hour and a half and it really came to life with excellent palate presence. Nice round cherry, unsweetened chocolate, boysenberry, little residual sugar and almost an almond butter finish. sharp from the alcohol that's still hanging in there and the tannins have softened quite a bit and the fruit doesn't quite hold up to the alcohol. this is a curious age for this wine. not 100% it's not just sleeping vs peaking. definitely didn't need a decant but rather a slow opening. Has been traditionally my second favorite of this label (at one point was a wine member) behind the '03 maximus. Drink now but would be curious to see how this wine drinks if it actually is sleeping.
