April 10, 2022 - Not even close to ready to drink; keep your mitts off this for a few years.

April 8, 2022 - One of the wines I opened for my annual WWC hosting.

This is made by Melka and is Cab dominant with merlot, petit Verdot and Malbec to round it out. Out of the four Long Shadows wines I poured, this had the brightest profile. Aromatics of sweet, rich mixed berry pie, cocoa, espresso, and currant. Red and black fruits on the palate (dark berries, ripe black cherries), little bit of a cherry kirsch note, sandalwood, and dusty tannin on the finish. Good now with a decant.

January 11, 2022 - Bright rich black fruit on the nose. Full bodied, layers of plum, blackberry with medium oak. Long finish, med tannin, will last at least 3-5 more years

December 21, 2021 - So far, all of the wines from this winery have been good, at best. Way over priced. There was nothing special about this particular vintage. I feel the owners think they are a cut above the other wineries in the valley. Obviously they haven't driven around and sampled their neighbors' wares.

    Full Pull Pirouette, 2/10/2018

(Long Shadows Pirouette) Hello friends. As a borderline-OCD planner by nature, Long Shadows does raise my blood pressure a little. Here we are, with our tidy February calendar all planned out, and then three days ago I get the following email from Long Shadows’ Seattle representatives: We are thrilled to announce the pending release of Philippe Melka’s 2015 Pirouette Red Wine! This Cabernet Sauvignon-driven blend has earned consistent accolades and the 2015 release promises to continue that streak. Sourced from Red Mountain for Cabernet, Wahluke Slope for Merlot, and Petit Verdot from the iconic Dionysus Vineyard, Philippe truly showcases the best of Washington state. Please send me your MAXIMUM REQUESTS by the 15th and we will allocate accordingly. So yeah, email received on the evening of Feb 7; wine tasted during the afternoon of Feb 8; offer written Feb 9; offer sent Feb 10. In that regard, I guess it speaks to the power and flexibility of the Full Pull model, but man, a few extra days to revise would be nice. Alas.[Logistics note: we need to stake our claim on Feb 15, so please try to get all order requests in by the end of Feb 14.] A Bordeaux blend made in conjunction with Californians Philippe Melka and Agustin Huneeus, in 2015 it is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 11% Petit Verdot, and 3% Malbec. The Cab comes predominantly from Red Mountain; the Merlot from Weinbau; the PV from Dionysus. It was aged for two years in 75% new French oak, clocks in at 15.1% listed alc, and offers a gorgeous Cab nose, with blackcurrant and black plum fruit shaded by violets and cedar, eucalyptus and earth. The palate is seductive as hell, with real extract and fruit impact. It’s a reverse mullet wine: all pleasure up front, all business in the back, with ripe robust tannins taking over in the middle and rolling through a long finish, all earl grey tea kissed with bergamot.
