Community Tasting Notes 22

October 8, 2021 - Taken to our monthly CWG Blind Tasting. I stick the Coravine needle 36 hours before “show time” and kept upright inside the cellar, then opened 6 hours prior, and finally a quick double decant (15 min) 1.5 hours before….

Everyone at the table guessed Napa Cabernet around 2005. They might have been influenced by my track history of taking mature wines all the time but I believe the slow oxidation did the trick.

The wine is bold, dark, super complex and endless finish. I have another bottle which will consume at the other side of the long uphill future for this wine…

97+ Drink with lots of air or HOLD!

August 8, 2021 - we like the 2013 only slightly better
this was both sweet and bitter- with a hint of maple, metal, cigar box, and clove with smooth tannins and and an exquisite finish

January 30, 2021 - Spectacular. 7 hour slow ox. IMO just entering its drinking window as tannins begin to soften. Equally enjoyable with or without food. Looking forward to seeing how this evolves.

October 10, 2020 - Tasted at the DT Napa tasting room with Emily. 18 Vine Hill, 18 Blend & 15 Blend. 18 Blend & 18 Vine Hill are locked up tight and too early for my palate to decide how to score this wine. Part of my consideration of not scoring the 18's is I tasted Abreu before this over lunch. That is a tough one to follow. Young Napa vs. something with bottle age is just not a fair fight.

The 2015 is just entering into a window that might be approachable for some. For my palate, this bottle needs time. Beautiful structure that should age well. Best is yet to come. Would love to track down some 14 which in my opinion is a vintage that is drinking well right now.

April 14, 2019 - Slow ox for 6 hours. Drank most (5/8) on first night; rest on day 2. Also had 2015 Realm Absurd open.

The Absurd sort of blew us away, so this was a FINE second place finisher. Maybe a little more tight - i can see this getting truly better in a few years. But damn, all of us loved this wine too.

We also had a friend pass from this mortal plane way too young this week (37 years young), but not before he reminded us to Remember to Live. This one is for you, Will. Cheers.
