October 7, 2019 - The grapes are sourced from organically farmed vineyards in the Montestefano Cru. Aged for 18 months in large oak botti casks. 13,5% alcohol. Tasted in a mini-vertical of Rivella Dolcettos 2017-2013.

Quite dark and somewhat translucent blackish ruby red color. Ripe and somewhat sweet-toned nose with aromas of fresh boysenberries, some gamey tones of meat, a little bit of ripe blackberries, light notes of wild strawberries and a hint of dried aromatic herbs. The contrast to the super-primary nose of the vintage 2017 is quite big here. The wine is ripe, full-bodied and juicy with quite bold and somewhat extracted flavors of juicy plums, some sweet dark-toned notes of black cherries and ripe blackberries, a little bit of peppery spice, light brambly notes of black raspberries, a hint of raspberry jam and a hint of sour cherry bitterness. The wine is moderately high in acidity with firm, ripe and textural tannins. The finish is ripe, juicy and somewhat grippy with quite primary flavors of blackberries, some cherry marmalade, a little bit of raspberry jam, light blueberry tones and a hint of sour cherry bitterness.

An enjoyable, dead-serious and surprisingly extracted Dolcetto with lots of intensity and sense of gravitas. The wine wasn't as super-primary and tutti-frutti as the vintage 2017, but still retaining some of that sweet - almost candied - primary fruit that lends a somewhat "simple" character to the otherwise impressive wine. There's tons of potential here, but it is yet to be realized due to the youthful nature of the wine. This is thoroughly enjoyable at the moment, but based on how the older vintages are drinking now, I heartily suggest letting the wine age for at least another 1-3 years - it is definitely a Dolcetto built for the long haul.

July 20, 2018 - This has come together rather nicely. Dark cherry fruit and an attractive thyme, and earthy back note, quite reminiscent of grenache. Palate is soft, nicely fresh and ripe dark fruit in the mid, no bitterness this time. Enjoyed very much

September 22, 2017 - Tasting at the Cantina: south facing slope, 60yr old vines. Rich cherry fruit on nose, lightest touch of funk adding depth. Lovely fresh palate, fine tannins and no astringence that I sometimes get with dolcetto. One of the best examples of this tasted yet
