November 20, 2023 - Leaky Cork — leaking through the capsule and staining the label. But the wine was just fine!

September 27, 2023 - First time tasting Thomas; I must say it was not at all what I expected reading the notes; first my cork was perfect; well sealed, no sign of leakage and no staining really past the bottom of the cork; now to the wine; my initial smell after about 15 minutes open was dominated by sweet oak spice; vanilla and a hint of smoke; there is clearly lovely red fruit underlying and some earth, but I had trouble getting past what seemed to be a heavier veneer of oak than I imagined; the palate is ripe and for me borders on big; don't get me wrong it has lovely balance and energy and lots of fruit and earth that I love. But it is not in the "light and elegant category to my palate". There is definitely some tannic structure and plenty of density to this wine and I see it actually becoming quite stunning in another decade. For me right now it seems a bit awkward with oak sticking out and not fully coalesced. That said I see the underlying material to fully absorb the oak and let this soar. I'd love to try a bottle in 10-15 years, but given the secondary market prices I'm not sure I'll spring for one. I do know I will plan to give my other couple vintages much more bottle time based on this.
Night 2, not really much change; still a sweet vanilla note (almost like marshmallow) that dominates for me; palate largely unchanged which bodes well for aging if the cork is sound.3 people found this helpful Comments (2) -

September 3, 2023 - Earth, spice, dried cherries, and dry black tea leaves. On the palate, cherries and cranberries and then then tea notes come through on the finish. Pretty much perfect right now. I’m starting to appreciate Thomas wines on the younger side while saving a few to fully mature. An hour later, it’s still gorgeous. On pulling the cork, I didn’t notice a pink line like other reviewers but the capsule and cork was a mess with lots of dried red wine residue. On day two, it’s way more earthy suggesting what’s ahead for this wine. Examining the cork more closely, it’s stained along the whole length. I’m quite surprised it still tastes fine, but then again I’ve had plenty of older German Rieslings that were moldy, mushy cork disasters yet still tasted great.

June 5, 2023 - So these wines, or at least this vintage, has a rep for bad corks but my first three bottles were all sound. So, natch, I take one to show off for friends and that's when I get my first bad cork. Lots of leakage and crud under the capsule. That said, it was impressively delicious. Just not as profound as the better bottles a year ago, and lighter-bodied. Is that evolution or the cork? Unable to say with certainty, but probably the latter.

February 24, 2023 - Ruby red in color. 13.3% ABV. There was a thin red line on the cork and a little bit of wine had seeped out below the foil. Pretty nose of red fruits, soil and roses. Medium body with perfect acidity. Light and elegant with crunchy fruits. Cherry, cranberry, black tea and earth on the palate. Medium length on the finish. Somewhat underwhelming but not flawed. Perhaps it has aged a little prematurely? There is a know issue with the 2015 Thomas Pinot Noir as a result of a problem on the bottling line. My two previous bottles were not impacted and were much better. Drink soon.
