October 21, 2023 - Popped and poured into a Grassl Cru. Bottled under Diam5. Recent library purchase. Stored in cellar but moved to the refrigerator a couple days ago for space reasons (i.e., Goodfellow shipment arrived).

This wine is fantastic. The nose is immediately smoky and flinty, and slowly unfurls it’s orchard bounty and saline intrigue. There also emerged late on a warm spice note.

The palate is forwardly golden apple and pears. The fruit density is remarkable here, and in comparison to the village+ Meursault we had a few nights ago, deeper. The acid is prominent but perhaps less driven than the white burg I can’t help but compare this to. The finish is nice and long and detailed with that smoke and sea seasoning the fruit. The minerality is not a major factor here, but is nicely integrated. One of my favorite aspects of this is the body, which feels full and dense without being heavy, overbearing, or cloying. Kudos M+M

August 4, 2023 - Just bursting with layers of flavors. I’m not certain what reductive is yet but this might be it, then into a smooth fruit with lemon, pear, and a late almond note to make this like a particularly drinkable cocktail. Excellent depth, one of the best Chards I’ve had.

December 16, 2022 - Undoubtedly rich and generous, but it never verged on heavy or cloying whatsoever. The first few sips had me thinking there was less acidity than expected (relative to Goodfellows in more "classic" vintages), but I forgot about that with some air, as the minerality started to show through. Went great with only mildly spicy Thai takeout.

    December 1, 2022 - -- double-decanted approx. 20 min. before first taste --
    -- tasted non-blind over 2 hrs. on Day 1; revisited on Days 8 and 14 --

NOSE: Day 1: high-toned; lemony; underbrush; hint of spearmint. Day 8: more rich, and now buttery.

BODY: rich, golden yellow color --- darker than I was expecting; medium-full bodied.

TASTE: lots of mineral with some rich fruit behind; medium+ acidity; quite dry; fruit almost seemed to brighten with air, finally landing in "pear" territory, but still with lots of mineral; 13.6% alc. not noticeable. Day 8: still plenty of mineral, but not as much fruit as Day 1; feels a bit thick. Still good on Day 14. Drink or Hold --- my preference is to wait another year or two for next bottle.

July 20, 2022 - Transparent yellow color. Honeyed fruit and apricot on the nose. Medium body, low acid. Rich honeyed fruit on the palate with a hint of lemon curd. Creamy. Surprising heat on the finish, though this mellowed with air. To me, these tasted from a warmer climate than expected.
