May 18, 2020 - Recent one off auction purchase ($23.70) and my first wine from Cecilia Welch (I figured if I liked it I could always work my way up to Scarecrow, or I could just buy 20 bottles of this.) 1 oz pour with wine open but not decanted for 30-45 minutes. Powerful herbaceous nose almost to the point of funkiness with semi-tart citrus notes. On the palate, consistent with grapefruit, cumquat, lime and some slightly sweeter notes of white flowers, lychee and guava. Light silvery gold colored, medium bodied, light to medium legs, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Medium+ acidity (sorry, msuwright and csimm, for the cliché!), no heat. This wine is beautifully balanced between the grassy, citrus and tropical fruit notes, a really good drink on its own--head and shoulders above the cat pee and oyster shell SBs, not that there isn't a place for the $10 Kim Crawford--but also with food (terrific with a seafood and veggie stir fry), far exceeding the more expensive, bespoke Aesthete with its viscous, slightly sweet mouthfeel which overpowered all but the dessert I had it with. Consistent TNs and great holding power over 3 nights seems to indicate several more years of good drinking. While I look on with some bemusement at the $100+ SBs which seem to be popping up with regularity over the past several years, this may not be their match in absolute terms, but it's hard for me to imagine them surpassing it on any kind of a qpr basis. Highly recommended. 91-92

March 15, 2020 - Drinking for Woman’s History Month, a Sauvignon Blanc made by Cecilia Welch. Medium greenish yellow in appearance. Fresh and enticing nose coated with pineapple, lychee, honeysuckle and perfumed flowers. Medium acidity (6/10) and medium bodied. Bright and refreshing palate with a creamy mouthfeel with flavors of lemon zest, pineapple, honeysuckle and melon. Long finish. Drink till 2023.

June 2, 2018 - Third winery on our sixth day in Napa Valley is Yount Ridge Cellars which is a new one to us located in Oakville. The first wine is their Sauvignon Blanc from the Yount Ridge Vineyard in Oakville and made by Celia Welch from Scarecrow and more fame. This is made out of 100% Sauvignon Blanc, one third of which is the Sauvignon Musque Clone. Aged in 70% new French oak for 6 months and only 150 cases produced.

Bright lemon yellow in appearance. Lovely nose with a bit of creaminess, notes of lilac, jasmine, tropical fruits, and a little citrus. Medium acidity (6.5/10) and medium plus bodied. Rich mouthfeel on the palate with some tropical fruits, honeyed melon, pineapple and citrus zest. Long finish. Drink till 2023.
