May 17, 2022 - Mugneret Gibourg Clos Vougeot (Medlar (London)): bit hard bite at first, in style with the vintage quite buttoned up and closed (still / forever?) dark fruited and powerful. Just not that charming.
April 6, 2019 - Acker April Auction 2019 (sad day) (Marea): Woody, sweet herbal, spicy, good ageing with less the typical vintage tannin issue. 93
November 21, 2017 - Double the Blind Double the Pleasure: 1983-96 Grand Cru Burgundy: A little birdie told me what this was so I wasn't able to guess. The fruit is bright red cherry, very clean, and a hint of the 96 acidity is present. Tannins are also present. Showing the youngest of the night. Approachable now but needs a little more time.
June 7, 2015 - Secondary aromas dominate the nose with earthiness, old wood varnish, underbrush, dust, iron wrapped around dark cherries, raspberries, old leather, licorice, smoked bacon, herbs, and exotic spices. A light bodied wine packed with flavor showing sour cherries, raspberries on entry, the midpalate reveals dark chocolate, licorice, and mouth searing acidity. The finish is of moderate length with woody flavors, herbs, black pepper, and chewy tannins. This wine is at its peak, the fruit is starting to fade, drink up soon!
February 19, 2013 - Clos Vougeot Masterclass, with James Handford MW (Handford Wines, London): Dusty, barnish nose, herbaceous wine. Decent, Good tannin, sweet core of fruit, a bit weird at times. Good but not great. Drink now. 89-90
December 27, 2012 - Rusty red, slightly murky, no brown.
Black berries, earthy, hint of iron, black cherry, a little spice, Fleshy, broad, but with a crisp finish and some nice fine lingering tannins. Forest fruits, plum, leathery notes. Has softened but still a big mouthful of delicious wine. Won't improve, ageing gracefully though.
July 24, 2012 - Corked! :-(
February 12, 2010 - Nigel P's Mugneret Offline (The Ledbury, London): Corked
