Community Tasting Notes 5

October 4, 2020 - I did not get this wine. Dark fruit but flat muted flavors with lots of rough edges. Guess that is why it is typically a blending grape.

November 14, 2019 - Gordon's Festa d'Italia (Artists for Humanity Center - Boston MA): Walk around tasting. A big step up here with even more red cherry throughout with spice hints. Clear depth throughout with a rich start and good+ balance from middle froward. Avery good value wine.

December 23, 2018 - Enkelt men trevligt vin med josig primärfrukt, toner av viol, lakrits och hallon. Fräsch syra, drickvänlig kropp.

September 19, 2018 - P&p; seems to be drinking well within a matter of minutes, then increasingly expressive with air in the bottle. Nice combination of lively darkish-red raspberry and hibiscus sorts of aromas with deeper, pungent, savory mushroom/forest floor/earth, spicy oak barrel, and stony mountain air elements. Similar flavors, juicy, fairly acid-driven, with fine, medium-strength tannins providing additional structure. Nice Etna rocky minerality. Not explicitly smoky/volcanic at first, but a deep, savory smokiness develops with an hour+ of air in the bottle, along with herbaceous juniper/eucalyptus and floral/honey scents, and the fruit goes a few shades darker. The most elegant and refined (and expensive) Calabretta wine I've tried, in a good way. Tasty and full of character; quite enjoyable.

Trying this next to the 2008 Nerello Mascalese Vigne Vecchie, the differences are stark; yet they are both expressive of the terroir, albeit in completely different ways; pretty neat! Couldn't resist trying a 50/50 blend, and it was delicious.

Day 2 (stored refrigerated in a half-bottle): Still drinking well. The fruit has gone darker/plummy, but still plenty fresh.

February 5, 2018 - Wonderful inky-ripe floral, peppermint, and campfire bouquet with pastille blueberry. Then blackberry juicy and dissolving orange and stalk. Being so into Etna Rossos these days, and especially the ‘14s, it was fun to try the second grape on its own, to see what it contributes in dark color, powdery smells, and pucker.
