October 10, 2022 - Big round and easy to love. Long finidh wirh a good backbone. Great tannins. PDQ95

July 9, 2021 - Nose: [58°] Macerated dark red fruits like dark red currants from the pour, almost black, clean forest floor as if it just rained, freshly shaved pencils (lead and wood shavings) scattered and buried in deep earth, dark damp and brambly tree branches. A bit of smoked maple wood with time. [64°+] The creaminess fades with some/temp and dark floral notes appear along with some tobacco leaf.

Palate: [58°] Deep red fruits with a bit of cool dark blue fruits, spiced damp oak and tree bark. On the mid palate there is deep damp earth and a finish of savory stones and a dark graphite. [64°+] Darker red and black fruits with a nice lacing of dried aged softly spiced oak. Similar mid and end palate.

Attributes: Dark ruby. Dry with medium to medium-plus amounts of chewy tannin. Medium-plus to full body with well integrated medium acidity. Good finish of at least 16-18 seconds.

Thoughts: The nose had me thinking this is going to be a creamy, macerated fruit type wine but this took a sidestep and lead me down a completely different path.. and surprisingly not in a disappointing way neither. The flavors are rich and concentrated without being heavy. The dark fruits, savory oak (or maybe even clay? if it were delicious) and graphite meld together in such a nice way with time. This is somewhere in between New World and Old World which is kinda nice. 96+

Other notes: Bordeaux glass. Poured one glass, emptied rest of bottle into a decanter at cellar temp ~54° for the duration of consumption of ~5 hours. Recommend serving ~58°-62° and decant for 1-2 hours if you're opening soon.

April 12, 2021 - Opened and decanted for about 8 hours prior to consumption in my cellar. Overall I was expecting more based on the notes here, and while it was a beautiful expression of Cabernet, if blind could have been about 30 different wines. Nothing too specific or special about it on this night. Again a beautiful, powerful, and harmonious cabernet but certainly nowhere near as good as the professional and CT notes suggest. Perhaps a dumb phase? Will revisit in a few years. 92+

August 6, 2020 - Way too young but opened after several hours in the decanter. Awesome balance of fruit, acidity, tannin and oak. It doesn't scream "napa" yet is truly a unique cabernet in it's own right. I'd hold these for another 3-5 years and these will go for the long haul.

February 15, 2020 - With the upcoming 2016 offering, I hadn't yet tried some of my Tynan wines laying around, so I figured why not open up a 2014 and see how it is.

This is my highest rated wine ever on CT (a 2016 Kinsman was a 98 a few months ago and a 2016 Vangone last month was another 98). I opened this around 8am, and double decanted back into the bottle after 10 hours. The aroma and the nose coming out of the decanter was dizzying. Easily the most complex, swirling flavors I've ever experienced. In the glass, it had so many layers. Subtle, well integrated tannins, velvety, full bodied, even the color was unique to many other Napa cabs. It had this dark cherry with a translucent edge to it, with a bit of purple.

This is easily the best wine I've had in my relatively young life. Amazing, period. With the right decant, this can be enjoyed now, but this will easily last 20+ more years.
