Community Tasting Notes 11

    February 19, 2023 - Solid 90-91 - decant helped on this one.

Natural cork, no penetration into the cork.

First taste out of the bottle was a little thin and harsh. After 20-30 min in the glass and the balance of the bottle in the decanter it settled into a smooth combination of dark fruit with plenty of vanilla and and cedar notes, with enough acid and tannin to hold it together. Had with grilled skirt steak and cauliflower risotto.

This was better than the last bottle I had a couple years ago. Still got a few years of life - no signs of age.

May 26, 2021 - I reviewed this wine and vintage for CellarTracker on 2/1/20, rating it at 91; a second bottle was located allowing a comparison with the same wine after almost 1 1/2 years of additional cellaring; the cork shows a wine penetration of 1.5 cm, almost twice as much as in the first tasting; in addition there is no gentle whiff of cedar from the cork but rather it has taken on a sourish, woody turn; as before, it was opened, vinturied, and tasted right away, although this time not at room temperature but considerably cooler --- about 10 degrees C; the nose was similar to the earlier tasting, with the addition of the same sourish, woody notes I noticed in the cork; this effect was accentuated in the actual tasting --lingering notes of wood with an accompanying sourness and some bitterness that persisted into the long finish; fruitiness was reduced; although there are bits and pieces of its former sterling qualities still present, the enticing balance between the various components that I described earlier was gone, to be replaced by a much more pedestrian wine that might not pair well with any food; I have reduced my rating to 82 and have changed 'like' to 'don't like'

February 11, 2021 - Found one bottle at costco, 12$ on closeout. Its smooth nice mouthfeel, blackfruits. Not terribly complex, but if this price a great buy in a great drinking wine for the money.

    February 8, 2021 - At 12.99 this is a great value.

February 1, 2021 - 14.5% alcohol; medium weight foil, real cork with a maximum of 7 mm wine penetration, whiff of cedar wood on the cork; fast legs, very dark purple; opened, vinturied, and tasted right away at room temperature (24 degrees C); nose of stone fruit and fruit essence;, full bodied, notes of stone fruit, apples, cassis, vanilla and wood; fruit forward with a good balance of tannins, sourness and bitterness; long finish, with some minerals -- like Italian Acqua Panna -- & forest floor, and even developing faint notes of honeysuckle nectar; as noted by other reviewers, this is a food-friendly wine; it could be paired with almost anything including poultry & fish
