July 20, 2018 - The appearance is clear and pale ruby in colour. Tears are visible.

The nose is clean with pronounced intensity. There are well-defined aromas of red fruit (raspberry, red cherry, strawberry), and pungent spice (subtle white pepper). Swirling reveals some bottle-age notes (very subtle leather, very subtle gamey character). The wine is developing.

On the palate, the wine is dry with medium(-) acidity, high alcohol, and medium(+) body. The medium(-) level tannins are ripe and powdery in nature. The flavours have a medium(+) intensity and show notes of red fruit (raspberry, red cherry, strawberry), pungent spice (white pepper), oak (subtle wood), and some bottle-age (subtle leather, subtle gamey character). The finish has a medium(+) length.

This is a very good quality wine. The flavours are very concentrated and have a great balance with the alcohol and the acidity. The high alcohol is masked by the concentrated fruit. The powdery tannins have a great balance with the acidity and complement the flavour profile. The neutral oak treatment does not interfere with the primary fruit. In its current state, the wine shows primary, secondary, and some subtle tertiary notes. The wine is very enjoyable and has a finish with great length.

The wine drinks well now, but has potential for some ageing. The fruit concentration is great, however, the tannin and acid structure will not support the wine for medium- to long-term ageing.

[I enjoyed this wine a lot more at home than at the cellar door.]

December 27, 2017 - Adelaide Winery Post-Christmas Trip (Day 2 - McLaren Vale) (Adelaide, South Australia, Australia): Clear medium ruby with tears.

Clean developing nose with a medium intensity. There are well-defined red cherry notes and subtle herbaceous characters. Swirling reveals raspberries.

The wine is dry with medium(+) acidity, high alcohol, and medium(+) body. The medium level tannins are powder-like in nature and hold on to the gums. The flavours have a medium intensity and follow the nose with notes of red cherry, raspberry, and generic herbaceous notes. The finish has a medium length.

This is a very good quality wine. The flavours are concentrated and have a great balance with the acidity and alcohol. The neutral oak treatment does not interfere with the expression of the fruit. The tannins are soft and grippy and complement the structure of the wine. In its current state, the wine is simple but very drinkable, and has a finish with good length.

The wine drinks well now, but is suitable for further ageing.
