June 14, 2021 - Delicious. Pears. Only one left. More.

December 20, 2019 - Ovum somehow escapes their deserved recognition. They have the attention of Terry Theise (distributes), but you don’t hear much buzz or excitement with each seasonal release. Off the Grid is big and expressive. It tingles my nose hairs. It’s naval orange blossom, flint, smoke, and petrol. The slightest off-dry, quietly confident.

April 20, 2019 - If there is such a thing as wines that can conjure a personal connection irrespective of “greatness,” but a connection of language and dialect, this is one of those wines for me. The same is true of all Ovum wines I’ve tried - quiet wines of place. Voluptuous but not clamorous.

Green herbs and aloe. Ice box spiced lemon meringue pie. Fat and creamy. Minty lemony creme brûlée.

February 4, 2019 - Quiet Wines of Place. You can't help but fall in love. Ovum wines hit a few notes for me 1. They are German inspired 2. They are intrinsically culturally relevant 3. They are unpretentious. Give this wine time and it will sing.

The aromas are deep, made of smokey chalky limestone with white flowers and honeyed peach. Texture and acid juxtaposed - flavors of ripe pear and yellow peaches.

    Full Pull Ovum, 1/28/2018

(Ovum Riesling "Off The Grid" (Cedar Ranch Vineyard)) Hello friends. Today we have one of Full Pull’s favorite wineries to write about in the northwest: John House and Ksenija Kostic’s Ovum. The story goes that in summer 2011, those two left perfectly steady winery jobs at Chehalem Winery, and they began driving all over Oregon looking for distinctive, potentially forgotten Riesling vineyards; vineyards with extreme climate shifts, poor and rocky soils, and talented farmers. They treat all their Rieslings (and Gewurztraminer; that was a happy surprise) the same way: old barrels and/or concrete, native yeast, long ferments. The goals are to express a sense of place and time in the glass, to emphasize mineral and earth as primary flavor components (pushing fruit and floral to the background), to create something honest, something wild. We’ve previously pitched these as under-the-radar gems, but that has changed in recent vintages. Over the last few years, Paul Gregutt’s reviews of Ovum for Wine Enthusiast have pushed this winery into the spotlight, bringing much needed attention to the potential of Oregon Riesling. Demand for these wines is steadily increasing, but thanks to our relationship with John and Ksenija, we not only get access to all of their lineup, we also get to offer these wines at a lovely discount.See key for # of bottles currently available.
