January 18, 2024 - PNP. Need to stop drinking these. I think it needs a lot more time and a decant. Was dark and brooding, which is not what I expect from Gigondas. It began to open but I only had one glass from the bottle and I didn’t give it enough time to tell how well it would open up. 89 is my now rating. I’m hopeful it will improve a lot with time or aeration. Somehow I’ve gone through three of these - locking the last one away.

Maybe slightly positively biased from drinking this on Father’s Day but intriguing and complex nose! Some mature notes are starting to show (mushroom and dried fruit) but the primary typical gigondas fruit is still dominating. Also some smoke and licorice. Noticeable alcohol that almost it gives it a touch that resembles LBV port. Fresh acidity and fine grained medium tannins. In a nice place now. Will try the next bottle in 3-4 years to see how it has developed.

    Note : 16,5/20 i.e. 92/100
