June 26, 2021 - This drank fantastically from PnP and over hours with and without food. Great combination of bright, electric fruit in the nose and well-framed depth that is never heavy, but is carried effortlessly. Elegant and rich.

Out of the gates I'd have guessed it for... wait for it... a top notch Zinfandel. No, that's not an insult. I'm not talking about a 16% jammy rendition, but old vines cooler climate Zin in the right hands. That bramble and spice and crunchy red fruits. But... that's the Grenache talking.

And it brings a touch of funk, so seems like natural SoRo meets mountain Zin to me.

Kirsch, garrigue, beef jerky, allspice, red currants.

Bonus for pairing perfectly with some of the best burgers I've made. Nancy Silverton blend with some Lawry's season salt, Worcestershire, smoked paprika, black pepper, and panko, grilled, pepperjack cheese, sautéed mushrooms on a toasted brioche bun.

15% abv. I'd have guess closer to 14%. It carries it well.

Need to keep the hands off the other bottle for several more years.

Happy I bought a couple on close-out at $40 USD a couple of years ago. Could have gone in for more. Competes with CdP well north of $50 IMO.

February 12, 2021 - Opulent on the nose and tongue...
Deep raspberry blackberry burst forth on palate, herbals and spice towards back half with a fair lift from the minerality and acidity...
It stays though in that just under syrupy area .....
All told there is A LOT going on and it’s quite scintillating....just great..

January 19, 2021 - Still very aggressive tannin. This is a big big wine, that probably needs a good long decant. Graphite and plum on the nose. Blackberry for days across the palate.

December 13, 2020 - Nose hits you right from the get go....
Chocolate raspberry cherry but it hits with a slight alcohol whiff...
Mid bittersweet cherry, raspberry, alcohol tongue, fine grippy tannins..
So much to love here...needs time...
Hope the alcohol subsides and let’s the fruit come thru but I really am not sure if that happens in this case...

July 25, 2020 - The 2015 Gourt de Martens has been widely praised by numerous critics for myself as much as I enjoyed the wine I did not fall head over heels for this vintage. Immediately on the palette there was a ripe sweetness that did not appeal to me, attractive berry aromas, the structure felt a bit unbalanced and I found the alcohol on the finish a touch too much. At this stage I much preferred the 2010& 2012 vintages. I have other bottles of this so will return to this offering in around 3-5 years this is one reason why you should try wines young and if you agree with a wine critics assessment. A lot of the time I do not........

June 21, 2020 - Massive. Hedonistic. Young. Lots of alcohol. So many nuances waiting to come forth. Really good now but a monster in the making.
Cellar and forget for 5+ years.

February 27, 2020 - Made from 40-100 year old vines around Rasteau, hence the Vaucluse generic Rhone designation. Great complex nose. Meaty and bloody. Then lots of garrigue and dark red fruit. Some floral. Palate is rich grenache blueberry. Licorice. 50% Grenache with the rest being Mourvèdre, Carignan, Counoise, Vaccarèse, Cinsault, Syrah, and Terret Noir. No hard edges, with enough fruit to keep the high alcohol from just barely feeling hot. Yet you also feel the glycerin in the velvety texture. Could integrate a little more and get better. Plenty of stuffing. Tannins are soft though. No holes in this wine. Good from entry to end. Less than a thousand cases made. Don’t think he makes this every vintage. Only in good years. Modern but not a bombastic Chateauneuf du Pape style wine. 94-95
