November 25, 2023 - Day one
Needed a 2 hr decant initially thin an tight but transformed in the decanter
Deep purple medium to full body
Nose: big fruit ( black plum/ cherry), pink peppercorn, rose, hints of new oak, and some faint Bret
Palate berry juice, peppercorn and umami, good acidity initially was loving it then as the wine opened it became a “pepper bomb” black pepper with a white pepper finish with fruit as a secondary note
Good with food and lovely to smell but did not pour a second glass( had a 2016 super Tuscan also on the table- yes yes the theme was robbing the cradle)
returned to bottle after 4-5 hrs in the decanter, vacuum air removal kept at 35 then brought back to 65
Day 2
Color and Nose the same except Bret a little more prominent but not to the point of being unpleasant- still fun to smell with candy notes coming and going
Palate: more integrated but with a very strong black pepper finish followed by pleasant fruit and pepper so crazy. Pepper like you bit a peppercorn. So strong that the back of the throat and tongue burn a little but there is a pleasant fruit/ acid flavors as well.
Overall I like it and I’m glad to have more bottles in my cellar. It’s unexpected and fun. That said
I would not serve it to my “ Francophile” friends.1 person found this helpful Comment -

November 21, 2023 - Just OK, may be losing too much fruit.

May 6, 2023 - Time has been very kind to this wine, and easily could cost 2-3X more.

April 9, 2023 - Decanted; this opened up nicely after about a half-hour, and kept improving throughout appetizers and main course as the fruit sweetened and the tannins relaxed. A very good QPR, as is usually the case with Melville.

March 20, 2023 - Nice aroma has developed. Definitely has the Sta Rita Hills smell and taste - minerally, fish oily.
