January 21, 2021 - Virtual tasting of Pulido Walker Chardonnay 2018, Panek 2014-17 and Melanson 2014-17 co-hosted by the proprietor. In both series the 2015 and 2016 stood out. In the direct comparison my preference was with Melanson which came across as denser and darker. But in the top vintages 2015 and 2016 Panek was better made. Close call, however.

    Tasting note:
Intense ripe fruit of cassis and black currant. Notes of slightly scorched wood, herbs and spices. Bold and muscular with a lot of sexiness and elements of sweet spices. Convincing, vibrant palate with a lot of moving parts.

October 25, 2019 - Beautiful wine. 2 hr decant. Dark blue fruit, more so than most 15s. Perfect balance. A bit of spice. Tannins smooth. Yep.

May 19, 2018 - TRB wines (SF): Blackberry, black cherry, asphalt, black pebbles, and some scorched earth. The flavors were enticing, with the mineral notes really grabbing my attention. However, it was a bit boozy. The grip was solid, but the liqueur rush on the bookends of the delivery made for an uneven distribution of flavor and seamlessness. Some tight clamping on the finish as well.

Giving the benefit of the doubt, I'll blame youth on some of this wine's issues. It was certainly the most interesting wine in the tasting, even besting a 2015 Schrader CCS.

93+ points for now, with probable upside in 2+ years. QPR is pretty stiff at two Benjamins. Not worth the price of admission for me at that price bracket.

April 6, 2018 - A deep purple ink color with loads of fruit right at the start of the glass. The nose is much more approachable than previous vintages. The taste is super approachable now, with tannins that seem to soften as you drink. The fruit stays at the front of the taste as you drink, and this wine is ready to consume now. Enjoy now through the next 20 years, knowing the wine will continue to grow in flavor and complexity as the years continue.
