Community Tasting Notes 4

October 22, 2022 - What an experience - Voerzios top Barbera is wine with a very high concentration - every vine from the vineyard only delivers 400g pr vineplant - this is 2000 so you can definitely taste the age - but a very good acidity - medium to medium plus - gives the wine a very needed freshness. This is only produced in magnum - we opened the wine four hours before drinking it - and decanted it 2 1/1 hour before drinking. The nose give you mostly black currant - on the palette you also get black currant and very ripped plums. We are also getting leather, licorice, cocoa beans, and hints of cigar. We do not sense a lot of wood probably because of the age. We are also geting a nice aftertaste - we had a discussion about the rating - as the host I decided on 93 - this is a great wine, but also a wine that is ready to drink.

June 10, 2018 - Mag Dinner Pampas Steakhouse: From magnum; very impressive, love the complexity and richness for a Barbera of this age, obviously in a different league than 99% of all other Barberas, mix of cherry and darker fruit, a cooked quality while still holding together nicely, oak influence is well done though could be perceived as too modern for some; very good.

June 6, 2010 - Vini Rossi-L'Ultimo Piano (Asti Trattoria): The overall favorite amang a very strong flight of five barberas, this had great extraction of fruit, was "bready, yeasty, huge, rich, awesome." With a closed nose, it was balanced, juicy, but not quite ready to drink. The nose developed after awhile, and the wine was then noted for a silky texture, great balance, flavors of candied red cherry, sweet spice, strawberry, leather, graphite, and cedar. Available only as a magnum.
