October 18, 2023 - What an awesome value for below USD $20. A great Argentine project founded in part by Michel Rolland of Chateau Leoville-Poyferre in Saint-Julien.

The nose opens with deep ripe black currants and black plum. A hint of ripe quince is followed by strong dark chocolate, graphite, wet cedar and a wisp of wood smoke. There’s also well-balanced light green tobacco leaf that feels like it’s become a bit more pronounced with age. Really nicely perfumed, which I always expect from decent Uco Valley Malbec-dominated wines.

On the palate the wine is dark and muscular. It’s velvety, powerful, and full with a long finish. There’s still some nice freshness in the fruit but it’s power keeps some of the more tertiary flavors from integrating fully on the mid-palate and finish. Tannins are softening but still provide great structure. Medium - acidity and medium complexity.

A touch of red fruit and increased acidity would turn this from a really good $20 bottle to an amazing one. It’s still a bit simple but the Left Bank influence is totally recognizable and, for me, appreciated. The fruit here has great quality and power, and the wine’s structure indicates that it will age well for at least another 5-7 years if not more.
